Background Note

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, a college student, along with his friends in the year 2004. It offered online social networking services which enabled students, friends, relatives, colleagues, and all people across the world to establish an online relationship. It was a cost-free service. In April 2013, as per a survey conducted by Glassdoor.com (Glassdoor) to identify the happiest companies to work for in Silicon Valley , Facebook was rated as the top company with an employee rating (anonymous) of 4.6 out of 5. The other companies that followed Facebook were Google, Linkedln, Apple, Informatica, Shutterfly, and NetApp . Being a preferred company, Facebook offered perks and benefits to its employees, which became industry benchmarks.

Facebook started its operations from a single room, expanded its operations, and constructed an office on 57 acres of land. The campus consists of clearly laid out roads that ran past a bank, clinic, and a gym, employees had the facility of visiting coffee shops, restaurants, a video arcade, a barbecue shack, and pizza and burger points.
